Comparison

Sora 2 vs Veo 3.1

These two get compared more than any other pair in AI video, and almost always from their launch announcements. Both come from laboratories with something to prove, both generate their own sound, and both are good enough that the choice between them is a question about your project rather than about which is better.

What follows is the part that is checkable. The specifications are read from each provider when this page is served, so they cannot go stale. The two clips were generated here, on the same account, through the same pipeline, with the prompts shown underneath -- not taken from either vendor’s reel, which is always the best output of many attempts.

Sora 2 costs 30 credits for five seconds and Veo 3.1 costs 100. The difference in what they do with it is below.

Specifications read from each provider's own schema when this page loaded. Both clips were generated on Musevate.

Both, on the same platform

The part no specification table can give you. Each clip below came out of Musevate through the same pipeline, and the prompt that produced it is underneath.

Sora 2A thunderstorm crossing a wheat field at dusk, the crop bending in waves ahead of the gust front, a distant lightning flash lighting the cloud base from inside, dust rising off the track
Veo 3.1Slow upward tilt across a weathered concrete facade, deep rectangular recesses casting hard afternoon shadows, streaks of rain staining the surface, a narrow strip of pale sky at the top

Side by side

Every figure here is read from the provider when the page is served, so it cannot drift the way a written comparison does. Where a row has a better answer it is marked; where it does not, both are shown plainly rather than scored.

Questions

Should I use Sora 2 or Veo 3.1?

It depends on the shot, and any page that answers this without knowing what you are making is guessing. Veo 3.1 animates an image you upload and Sora 2 does not, so if you have a product, a face or an existing frame that has to survive, that decides it on its own. If you are starting from a written description with nothing to preserve, both are candidates and the honest way to choose is to run the same prompt through each -- which on Musevate costs two generations from one balance.

Is Veo 3.1 the same as Veo 3?

No. Veo 3.1 is a later revision and is priced and specified separately; both are on Musevate as distinct models, each with its own page. Comparisons written when Veo 3 launched describe a model that has since been superseded, which is one of the reasons this page reads its numbers live rather than storing them.

Which one do the tables here favour?

Whichever the row is about. This page marks the better answer where a row has one -- a lower price, a longer clip, a larger render -- and leaves the rest unmarked, because sound, mode support and the look of the output are differences rather than rankings. There is no overall score, because there is no honest way to compute one.

Which is cheaper, Sora 2 or Veo 3.1?

Sora 2, at 30 credits for a five second clip against 100 for Veo 3.1. Both are billed the same way and the studio quotes the exact figure before you spend anything.

Which makes longer clips, Sora 2 or Veo 3.1?

Sora 2, up to 12 seconds in one generation against 8. Longer clips cost proportionally more.

Do Sora 2 and Veo 3.1 generate sound?

Both do. Sora 2: always, as part of the generation. Veo 3.1: on request.

Can I use both Sora 2 and Veo 3.1 on one account?

Yes. Musevate is one account and one credit balance across every model, so comparing them costs nothing beyond the two generations. That is how the clips on this page were made.
